October has always been an eventful month in Pokemon Go, with Halloween themed timed research, costumes, raid bosses and much more. This year is no different- from increased spawns of Ghost-type Pokemon in the wild as well as in raids, to Mega Gengar and more, let us have a look at what Niantic has to offer the trainers in this year’s Halloween Event in 2020.


Halloween Event Duration & Bonuses

The Pokemon Go 2020 Halloween Event starts Friday, October 23, 2020, at 6:00 p.m. PDT (GMT −7) and continues till Tuesday, November 3, 2020, at 6:00 p.m. PST (GMT −8). During the Halloween Event, trainers will be able to earn 2 times the Transfer Candy and 2 times the Catch Candy.

Halloween Sub Events

Halloween Event is composed of multiple sub-events which significantly adds up to the experience of the Halloween Week. Here is a list of all the mini events, along with all the bonuses and it’s features, mentioned.

Alolan Marowak Raid Day

During this event on Saturday, October 31, 2020, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time, Alolan Marowak will be appearing more often in raids, with a chance of being Shiny.

Catch Mastery: Ghost Day

On Sunday, October 25, 2020, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. local time, Ghost-type Pokémon will be appearing more often in the wild and there will be event-exclusive Timed Research available to complete. More on this here.

GO Battle League: Halloween Cup

From Monday, October 26, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. PDT (GMT −7) to Tuesday, November 3, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. PST (GMT −8), the Halloween Cup will be live in the GO Battle League.

The Halloween Cup will be capped at 1500CP, and the players can only use Poison, Bug, Dark and Fairy-type Pokemon. The rewards upon winning a set will be Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle in Halloween costumes.

Halloween Event 2020 Features

The 2020 Halloween Event packs in a lot of punch this time. Here, trainers will be able to enjoy the plethora of new additions to the game along with the presence many Dark and Ghost type Pokemon. Here’s a detailed list of all the features of this year’s Pokemon Go Halloween Event 2020.

Event Specific Spawns

Costumed Sableye Halloween Event

Ghost and Dark type Pokemon will be spawning more often in the wild. Considering it’s a Halloween themed event, you might as well look for rare shiny Pokemon as it might just be your best chance of finding them. Also, you might encounter a Halloween costumed Sableye in wild.

Pokemon Debuting


Galarian Yamask will be debuting this year during the Halloween Event 2020 in Pokemon Go. To encounter the Galraian Yamask, you will have to complete the new Halloween 2020 Special Research, A Spooky Message Unmasked, to help Professor Willow uncover the mysteries surrounding this Pokémon.

New Shiny Debut


This Halloween Event marks the debut of Shiny Spiritomb which can be encountered by two ways. You can either complete the Halloween specific Field Research tasks or complete the new Halloween 2020 Special Research story, A Spooky Message Unmasked. If you’re lucky, you may encounter a Shiny one! So, definitely keep an eye on this one!

Halloween Timed Research

This time around, there’s a renewed timed research for trainers with all new tasks and rewards. Trainers completing A Spooky Message Unmasked will have a chance to obtain Galarian Yamask, Shiny Spiritomb, Mega Gengar Energy and much more! Along with this, Niantic has also added multiple Halloween themed Field Research tasks!

Event Specific Raid Bosses


The Halloween week is the perfect time to introduce the spooky Dark Type Mythical Pokemon, Drakrai. This Pokemon is widely considered the best Drak Type Pokemon in Pokemon Go. Adding to the fun, if you’re lucky, you might as well encounter a Shiny Darkrai!

With the release of Mega forms in 2020, Pokemon Go trainers have encountered various Mega forms. And the month of October is perfect for the release of one more- Mega Gengar. If you’re lucky, you might also encounter a Shiny Gengar!
