The Go Fest 2020 will be starting tomorrow, i.e. July 25, and Niantic has been preparing quite well for it. Owing to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the whole event is virtual: players from any part of the world can safely attend the Fest on the weekend. You might gain extra perks if you participate, for data miners have found a good number of interesting updates, Shadow Mewtwo capturing the maximum attention. According to them, Giovanni will be appearing in the Go Fest 2020 event, and if you defeat him, you’ll get a chance to encounter Shadow Mewtwo, along with the Shadow Legendary birds. However, if you are not participating in the Go Fest, worry not, for there is an upcoming quest which will allow you to catch one.

Note: This information has not yet been officially announced by Niantic. However, we can trust the sources, for previously they have been releasing accurate information about the Community Days, as well as Jessie and James’ arrival, Shadow Suicune and more- all of which were officially announced shortly after.

Shadow Mewtwo In Pokemon Go

Shadow Mewtwo Pokemon Go IrisGuardian

Dataminers of Pokemon Go, or more specifically, the Pokeminers, have been announcing their recent findings related to updates for Go Fest 2020 event on Twitter and Reddit. That’s where they first confirmed their findings about data entries of shadow and purified forms of Mewtwo, and confirmed their release in Pokemon Go.

Mewtwo is already quite powerful with its extremely high attack stat- one of the highest in game, and the shadow boost will make it a complete powerhouse. Additionally, there have been leaks about upcoming Mega Evolutions, and if there is a shadow Mega Mewtwo Y, it could become the strongest Pokemon in the whole game, having a huge edge over others. Although, it is very much possible that Niantic prevents Mega Evolutions for shadow Pokemons, as this could mean a huge and biased shift of power and might completely change the meta-rankings of the game.

How To Beat Shadow Mewtwo (Giovanni)

How To Beat Shadow Mewtwo In Pokemon Go IrisGuardian

It is confirmed that Giovanni will have a Shadow Mewtwo in his team, although we don’t have any information about what his other two Pokemons will be. So, if you know how to beat this extremely powerful beast, you might gain more chances of defeating him, and getting your hands on Shadow Mewtwo.

Mewtwo is a psychic-type Pokemon, which makes it vulnerable to Bug, Ghost, and Dark-type attacks. The Shadow variant will have its attack stats raised, so it will be wise not to use any of its resistances- Fighting or Psychic. You want to implement maximum damage before it’s raised attack can kill your Pokemon.

Shadow Mewtwo Counters

Taking the above points in consideration, here are the recommended Pokemons which will be effective against Shadow Mewtwo:

  • Shadow Weavile
  • Chandelure
  • Shadow Tyranitar
  • Shadow Houndoom
  • Giratina Origin
  • Darkrai
  • Gengar
  • Pinsir
  • Mewtwo (with Shadow Ball)

If Shadow Mewtwo is the last Pokemon of Giovanni, we recommend you to force him to use all of his shields, so that you can hit it with a powerful charged move.

Should You Purify Shadow Mewtwo In Pokemon Go?

If you’ve bought the Go Fest 2020 ticket, by now, you might already made up your mind. But, if you haven’t, don’t worry, we’ll figure it out together. So, let’s say you beat Giovanni with Shadow Mewtwo and you manage to capture it, we would wholeheartedly recommend you to keep it in Shadow Form, unpurified. This is because, Shadow Mewtwo is one of the rarest Pokemons of all time and you might wanna add it to your collection well. But what if you want to actually use Shadow Mewtwo in PvP or PvE. Fortunately, due to the Shadow boost update, Mewtwo’s all time high attack stat will now be even higher, making it more dangerous than ever. There are also rumors touting Shadow Mewtwo to be the game changer.

As we mentioned earlier, Shadow Mewtwo is all set to change Master League Meta. With that boosted attack stat, it might just be your go-to Pokemon when coupled with right moveset. However, you might be facing difficulties in the process of getting your Shadow Mewtwo, Master League ready. Just like any other Shadow Pokemon, Shadow Mewtwo will be low on CP. So, you will be needing tons of rare candies and millions of stardust to power it up. And even when fully powered up, you still have to do away with it’s default move frustration.

So, if you get a chance to TM the moves away, always go for Confusion as the Fast Move and Psystrike and Shadow Ball as charge move. These moves will do wonders in not only Go Battles but also in raids as well. So there you have it, a perfect Shadow Mewtwo for your collection.

Costumed Pokemons

One can’t simply deny that Niantic seems to love costumed pokemons. Niantic has always had a long tradition of celebrating events with Costumed Pokémon, and GO Fest 2020 won’t be any different. During the Go Fest 2020 event, the three original starters (Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle) from Kanto region are expected to be released wearing Pikachu visors. Also, these Pokemons can be shiny as well.

Event Themed Stickers & Badges

In addition to the starters Pokemons and Shadow Mewtwo, dataminers have also found GO Fest 2020 exclusive items in the code including stickers to attach to gifts and new items for trainers’ avatar in the game’s shop. Most notably, new badges and “confetti items” were found, which seem to spell out the structure of GO Fest 2020.
