Community days are monthly six-hour events in which you can encounter a special Pokemon in the wild. During these hours, there is the chance to learn an exclusive move (otherwise unattainable) upon evolution, earn special bonuses, and most importantly, get a number of shiny variants of the featured Pokemon. This is why Community Days are much anticipated by the Pokemon Go Community each month.

This year, the featured Pokemon for the April Community Day is the grass-snake Pokemon, Snivy. Along with Tepig and Oshawott, Snivy is one of the three starter Pokemon of the Unova region. Although Snivy has it’s shiny variant already released, and has seen a Spotlight hour, there are still only a handful of players who actually own one. Therefore, not only can you get yourself a number of shiny Snivy, you also get 3x Stardust per catch, and many more bonuses.

Date and Time

The April Community Day will go live on Sunday, April 11, at 11 AM local time, and will end on Sunday, April 11, at 5 PM local time. Throughout the event, Snivy will be spawning in increased amounts in the wild, and will also appear when Incense or Lure Modules are used. During the Community Day, the chances of encountering a shiny Snivy will increase- it can be as high as 1 in 25 encounters. During the event, you can also get photobombed by Snivy. This means, if you click a picture of any Pokemon in AR, Snivy will appear in the photo, and then out in the wild for you to catch.

To get the Community Day exclusive move Frenzy Plant, you have to evolve your Snivy into Serperior during the active window of the event. You can also get the move upto two hours afterwards the Community Day. There are other bonuses as well, which we will be discussing below.

April Community Day Features

The following features will go live as soon as the Snivy Community Day starts, and will end accordingly. This means all of them are time-limited, and will end on January 16, 5p.m. local time.

Increased Rates for Shiny Snivy

Shiny Snivy Pokemon Go Irisguardian

Community Days are known for the increased rates of the shiny forms of the featured Pokemon throughout the event. The same will happen for Snivy- the shiny rate is expected to be close to 1 in every 25 encounters. Do note that shinies do not appear at the same location, unlike other Pokemon (for trainer level 30+). Therefore, if your friend encounters a shiny, doesn’t mean that it will be a shiny for you too. In case you do not need more candies, you can just start ‘shiny checking’. This means click on a Pokemon to check if it’s a shiny, and if it isn’t, back off without catching. Repeat until you finally get one. During Community Days, it can take approximately 25 encounters.

Community Day Exclusive move: Frenzy Plant

The exclusive move which Snivy shall get in this Community Day is Frenzy Plant- the best Grass-type Charged move. This move can be obtained by fully evolving a Snivy into a Serperior during the active window of the event. You can also evolve upto two hours after the conclusion of the event. Frenzy Plant cannot be obtained upon evolution during any other day, unless you use an Elite Charged TM.

Bonus catch Stardust and increased Incense duration

Players will get upto 3x extra Stardust per catch. This is viable for those who want to give their Serperior an extra move (which costs 50,000 Stardust and 50 candies). This bonus is available for catching any Pokemon during the community day, and not exclusively Snivy. Therefore, it is an excellent opportunity to stock up some Stardust. Also, any incense used duration during the Community Day will last up to 3 hours.

Community Day Box

A special Community Day Box will be available for 1,280 Pokecoins in the Credit store. This box will contain 30 Ultra Balls, four Star Pieces, four Mossy Lure Modules, and an Elite Charged TM.

Frenzy Plant Serperior PvP Analysis

Max CPAttackDefenceStamina

Having sole Grass-typing makes Serperior vulnerable yet rare in the Go Battle League. With a decent bulk, a low attack and average stamina stat, Serperior doesn’t really have anything exceptional to offer in League; however, with the addition of Frenzy Plant to it’s armory we see a very positive curve in it’s PvP matchups.

Taking a more thorough look at Serperior’s PvP prowess, we find it to be a very consistent Pokemon providing consistent damage and rely less on baiting shields than other Pokemon. Now, coming to the Leagues, it becomes quite obvious that Serperior is made for Great and Ultra League only. This is because of it’s low CP cap which barely crosses the 2500 mark at Level 50.

In Great League, Serperior actually performs pretty good by putting up a META defying performance, by taking on the likes Galarian Stunfisk, Azumarill, Deoxys and Swampert! While, Serperior is decent enough in Ultra League, it’s more like a makeshift Grass Type Attacker. Even though Serperior puts up a good fight in the Ultra League against Swampert, Cresselia and Poliwrath, it’s average stats just keeps dragging it down.
